SPINE ROTATION TRAINING

SPINE ROTATION TRAINING

The basic Paramace swing is an exercise that mimics the movements of the spine during throwing mechanics. It teaches how to transfer the weight from one leg to the other at the same time that we build momentum with the rotation of the pelvis, and how to deliver the momentum doing a follow through with the rotation of the ribcage. There are a few options to do this follow through, and that is what we are going to learn today.

The beginning of the exercise is basically the same for both variations. We will start from a unilateral stance holding the Paramace vertically in front of our body. Then we need rotate the pelvis at the same time that we transfer our weight to the opposite leg.

There are a few ways of doing the follow through. Usually, we will continue the swing in front of our body by extending the elbows. During this the Paramace is still moving in the frontal plane so the direction of the movement is conserved.

The other option we have is to continue the rotation of the Paramace by dropping the weight in the same direction. The difference is that we will now rotate the ribcage in the opposite direction. This will lead the mace into another overhead movement.
